Andy Davis | Why Not Fix Ltd
Hello, my name is Andy Davis and this is the history of Why Not Fix Ltd.
I have always loved building and mending things, and had an aptitude for problem solving from an early age. My career in electronics started as soon as I left school. I joined a 3 year Electronic apprenticeship at GEC Avionics to gain electronic fault finding skills. From that point, I was hired as part of the Electronic Assembly Team (we were responsible for the build and test of military flight control systems on the British fighter plane Tornado, Jaguar and the American F14).
I later joined Canon UK as a technician repairing fax machines, printers, copiers and scanners. I moved through various roles becoming a technical trainer and Quality Manager for the whole of Canon UK responsible for the ISO9001 accreditation. My final role was Senior Manager responsible for a National Team of 28 engineers across the UK.
After this I moved to Kone Plc based at Gatwick Airport as Operations Manager responsible for 24/7 maintenance & repairs of the lifts, escalators & passenger conveyors.
In 2011 I left the corporate world to work for myself. I originally set up Why Not Fix from the spare room in our house. My reputation grew organically over the following years covering Folkestone, Dover, Ashford and the Marshes in Kent. My workload increased faster than expected, and I became in desperate need of support which is when my partner Lorraine left her PA role in 2020 to help further progress the business. As things grew, we were able to employ our first technician in 2021. We outgrew the ‘spare room’ in no time at all. That’s when we moved to our office.
Today we are a jolly team of four tech repair experts and are lucky enough to have employed in 2024 a high-level Board Technician. We spend every day repairing devices for customers across Folkestone, Dover, Ashford, Hythe, Dymchurch, Canterbury, New Romney etc. In addition, other repairers/phone shops across the UK mail us devices for high level board repairs.
